We accept a wide range of insurance plans and want to make the billing process as smooth as possible for your family. Please take a moment to review the information below before your visit so there are no surprises.
Save Time with Electronic Check-In
Want to skip a few steps in the waiting room? You can check in ahead of time right from your mobile device. Upload a copy of your child’s insurance card and pay your copay before you arrive, so you’re ready to go the moment you walk through the door.
What to Bring to Your Child’s Appointment
- Your child’s insurance card – Required for new patients or any time your insurance has changed since your last visit
- Your copay – Payment is due at the time of service. We don’t send separate bills for copays.
- Knowledge of your coverage – As a courtesy, we’ll bill your primary insurance directly, but you are responsible for any remaining balance. Every plan is a little different, particularly when it comes to things like well-baby visits and immunizations versus sick visits, so we recommend contacting your insurance company if you have questions about what’s covered.
Please note: Being on our accepted insurance list means we can submit a claim on your child’s behalf. It does not guarantee that your insurance company will cover all or part of the services provided. Anything not covered by your plan will be billed directly to you.
PPO Plans
We are participating primary care physicians for most major PPO plans. Because coverage can vary by health plan and policy type (individual, small group, group, etc.), we recommend calling your insurance company before your visit to confirm our level of participation and your particular benefits.
HMO Plans: Important Steps Before Your Visit
If your child is on an HMO plan, please double-check the following before scheduling:
- Primary Care Physician (PCP): Your child’s listed PCP needs to be one of our doctors:
- IPA / Medical Group: Your child’s plan must be associated with one of the following:
- Optum/Monarch
- Providence St. Joseph
CalOptima
If your child is covered by CHOC Health Alliance or Providence St. Joseph Medi-Cal, we’re happily accepting new patients, and you’re welcome to choose any of our doctors.
Please note: Our panel with Monarch is closed to Medi-Cal / CalOptima enrollment.
Paying Your Bill
A few things worth knowing about how billing works at our office:
- Copays are due at the time of service. We do not bill for copays. They can be paid on your personal device during the electronic check in process or by credit card when you arrive in the office. We do not accept cash.
- Statements for coinsurance or after insurance balances are sent out monthly. Bills are considered past due 30 days after charges are incurred, or 30 days after your insurance has processed your claim.
- Accounts over 90 days past due may be sent to a collection agency. If you’re worried about an upcoming balance, please reach out to us first. We’d much rather work with you on a payment plan than let it get to that point.
- Repeated NSF checks or accounts sent to collections may mean we’re no longer able to keep your family in the practice. It’s not a step we take lightly, and a quick phone call early on is almost always enough to keep things on track.
We don’t routinely provide end-of-year statements for tax purposes, so we suggest keeping your own records of payments and visits as you go.
If you have secondary insurance, we’ll provide the documentation you need to submit a claim with them directly.
Payment Options
We accept credit and debit cards. We do not accept cash. If you have an outstanding balance and need some flexibility, we can offer a payment plan to help.
For payment plans or billing questions, please contact the CHOC Family Payment Center at (714) 509-8600.
Not Sure If We Accept Your Plan?
If we don’t have an agreement with your insurance company or if you do not have health insurance, your account would be set up as self-pay, with payment expected at the time of service.
If you’re on a PPO, the good news is we participate with most major plans, but coverage can vary, so we recommend checking with your insurance provider before your visit to be sure.
Still not sure? Give our office a call at (714) 565-7960 and we’ll be glad to help you figure out the best path forward.
